Information collected

The articles and pages of this website can be read without registration; no account or login is needed to read them.

Information is given only when you choose to provide it — by filling in the contact form or by subscribing to the newsletter. The contact form contains the following details:

• Your name
• Email address
• Subject of the message
• The message you write

Contact form, newsletter, and email correspondence

Once submitted, your name, email, subject, and message are delivered by email to the author's inbox. The email address you provide is used only to reply to your message.

When you subscribe to the newsletter, your email address is stored in the contact list of our email provider, Resend. That address may be used to send an occasional note when a new article is published. No advertising or promotional material is sent from this website, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Cookies, pageview counting, and analytics

This website does not use advertising services or analytics that build personal profiles of readers, and it does not itself set cookies that store identifiable information about you.

Total pageviews are counted with a third-party script from Counter12/Histats, which tracks only the number of pageviews, and that count is displayed in the footer.

The script is loaded from an external service (counter12.com), so that service may — under its own privacy policy — set cookies and record details such as your IP address and browser information. That record is outside my control.

Apart from ordinary technical records kept by your browser and network (such as cache, or temporary logs kept for security purposes), the website does not itself store any personally identifiable information on your device.

Hosting and third-party services

The operation of this website relies on the following third-party services:

• Content management (Sanity) — articles, topics, and images are stored and delivered through Sanity; images load from Sanity's content delivery network.
• Email and newsletter (Resend) — messages submitted through the contact form are sent as email, and newsletter subscribers' email addresses are stored so that updates can be sent.
• Pageview counting (Counter12 / Histats) — counts the total number of pageviews from visitors.
• Videos (YouTube) — videos on the video pages and inside articles are embedded from YouTube, which may use cookies or data under its own policies when you play them.
• Hosting and content delivery — the service that makes the website available on the internet.

Articles and pages on this site may contain links to social media, news publications, or other websites. The content and privacy practices of those external sites are beyond my control, so it is sensible to review the respective site's privacy policy before visiting them. The same applies to embedded third-party content, such as YouTube videos, which follow the terms and privacy practices of the respective service.

Data security

The contact form and the newsletter form include several safeguards against spam and automated abuse (a hidden check field, a timing check on the form, and a limit on rapid repeated requests), and the website uses encrypted (HTTPS) connections. That said, any exchange over the internet carries a practical limit — no transmission can be made entirely risk-free.

Data retention and your rights

Contact messages are kept in the email inbox for as long as needed to resolve the related enquiry; once that need has passed, older messages are deleted. If you unsubscribe from the newsletter or ask to be removed, your email address is deleted from the subscriber list. If you would like to view, correct, or delete information you have sent, you can request this at any time.

This policy may be updated from time to time. All changes are published on this page, and the 'Last updated' date above is revised accordingly.
